Counting Our Many Blessings
As we head into the holiday season, I often reflect on the many things we have to be thankful for. As I write this message, the damage from Hurricane Matthew along the Atlantic Coast is still in the headlines. I can’t help but reflect and be grateful the impact to our area was minimal.
Due to the preparation of every department here at Glades Electric Cooperative, most of our members remained with power for the duration of the storm. Even though we experienced tropical storm conditions throughout our service territory, only 26 members reported having their power disrupted during the storm.
This is a testament to the preparation involved and dedication each of our employees has to providing safe, reliable and affordable electric service to our members. The blessings at GEC continue to abound following Hurricane Matthew. In June, I reported to you the retirement of Jeanie Perkins, a personal inspiration to me. Throughout her battle with ovarian cancer, she has maintained a smile on her face and a winning attitude. Eager to continue to work, Jeanie recently returned to GEC as a part-time employee. In my report to our members, I vowed to have cake and ice cream in our breakroom October 10 to celebrate her birthday.
Although I was worried we would have to postpone that celebration due to the storm, we were able to gather and watch Jeanie blow out the candles.
Our GEC family has much to be thankful for this year, including you, our members. I wish you and your family a blessed and Happy Thanksgiving.
