Glades Electric Educational Foundation, Inc. Scholarships

Glades Electric Educational Foundation was formed in 2000 to provide scholarships to students living within the service area of Glades Electric Cooperative to further their education. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded over $702,000 in college scholarships.

iTECH Glades Scholarships

GEEF awarded $2,000 scholarships to four iTech Glades students in 2023. Pictured are recipients Asael DeLeon and Omar Barrios. Recipients Leah Ann Valdes, Victoria Arthur and Tori Light are not pictured.

In the fall of 2023, GEEF was pleased to award additional career program scholarships at iTECH Glades. Five scholarship recipients were each awarded $2,000. With this being the second year of GEEF scholarships for iTECH Glades students, nine scholarships have now been granted for a total of $18,000. The 2023 recipients were:

• Asael DeLeon – Heavy Equipment Service Technician
• Omar Barrios – Heavy Equipment Service Technician
• Leah Ann Valdes – Licensed Practical Nursing
• Victoria Arthur – Licensed Practical Nursing

• Tori Light – Licensed Practical Nursing

GEEF is once again offering six $2,000 scholarships to iTECH Glades students served by GEC, who are beginning programs in 2024.

College Scholarships for High School Seniors

The Glades Electric Educational Foundation also awards eight $4,000 college scholarships to high school seniors . Applications are accepted from graduating seniors whose legal permanent residence is served directly by Glades Electric Cooperative, Inc. College scholarship winners are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, essay, and financial need.

Applications for Spring 2024 are now closed. Winners will be notified by mail in mid-April.

Applications for the Class of 2025 will be available on this webpage in the fall.

Washington, DC Electric Cooperative Youth Tour for High School Juniors

Rep. Greg Steube met with 2022 Youth Tour students at the Capitol.

Each year, all high school juniors in Glades Electric Cooperative’s service territory are eligible to apply for an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, DC. Students chosen will join their peers for a tour of our nation’s capital, meetings with congressional representatives, and educational opportunities. The Youth Tour trip takes place June following students’ junior year of high school.

The 2024 Youth Tour trip to Washington, DC will take place June 16-21, 2024.

2024 Youth Tour Delegates

Lake Placid High School’s Andrew Murray and Clewiston High School student Eduardo Ortiz will represent Glades Electric this summer as they travel to our nation’s capital with peers from across the country. We are pleased to have two outstanding young men representing our cooperative and our region.
